August 2010
Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:
Welcome to Crestwood Middle School. The students at Crestwood Middle School have a tradition of excellence. To ensure the continuation of our tradition at the middle school we have set forth the expected roles of our students and parents/guardians.
The middle school 7th grade and new student orientation will occur on August 24th beginning at 6:00 pm in the high school auditorium. In addition, our student handbook is designed to inform the student body and parent/guardians of policies and procedures established at Crestwood Middle School. These policies are designed to enforce a productive educational environment. In a case of conflict between a Board Policy and the provisions of this handbook, the Board Policy most recently adopted by the Board will prevail. The handbook is not a contract between the school and students/parents/guardians. It may be amended at any time at the discretion of the district. The middle school handbook can be reviewed on line at the middle school website.
Your child will bring home the handbook during the first week of school with additional information, please review it together.
This year we will build upon your child’s educational success being in our third year with Skyward Family Access from home. Family Access from Skyward is a Web-based information and communication center designed to provide parents and guardians with the answer to “What did you do at school today?” More information will follow on Skyward. Please visit our website at www.csdcomets.org for the latest school messages and to view the calendar of events.
Your child has been assigned to a grade level team for the 10-11 school year. Team/Homeroom assignments will be posted on the Family Access site. Previous log-ons and passwords are active for the new year. If you need assistance with passwords and log-ons, please call 474-6782, ext. 342.. Each team consists of a core group of teachers who will work together to integrate the curriculum and provide an excellent education for your child in a very personalized environment.
As we look forward to the 2010-2011 school year, we will continue to emphasize the importance of regular attendance and behavior that is conducive to learning. As we enter the new school year, just a few reminders to consider:
· Cell phones must be off at all times in school. Please call 474-6782 x342 to contact your child.
· If your child is sick at school, they need to go first to the nurse, if it is deemed that they should go home, the nurse would contact you.
· School begins at 7:30 am. Federal Laws require strict adherence to school attendance policies.
· A written excuse turned into the homeroom teacher is required within 3 days for every absence even if a phone call was made to the school.
· Absences of 3 or more consecutive days require a doctor’s excuse.
· Educational/Planned trips require the student bring in the excuse to the office PRIOR to the trip.
· If your child has missed ten days of school for whatever reason, school law requires a doctor's excuse for each additional absence.
It is my hope that you become involved in activities as well as pursue academic excellence. With a wonderful facility, state of the art technology, a dedicated faculty and a wide variety of extracurricular activities, you have every opportunity to be successful at Crestwood Middle School.
Take advantage of what Crestwood Middle School has to offer to you and make an effort to get the best out of your time. We take great pride in all the accomplishments our students achieve which reflects the value our students place on their education. You are challenged to be another Comet success story! Best wishes for a successful and memorable new school year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Brian D. Baddick, Principal CMS
